What should be taken into account when choosing bathroom furniture?

When thinking about the design of the bathroom, you should also take care of the necessary furnishings. If the room is spacious, the standard furniture set — a hinged cabinet with a mirror, a cabinet under the washbasin and a pencil case (most often corner) can be supplemented with a couch for rest or a dressing table.

A current trend is the use of a wide and long countertop, in which the sink is mounted. As a rule, the space under such a surface is not empty — there is a multifunctional chest of drawers or several separate cabinets and a washing machine.

Since the bathroom is a room with high humidity and often insufficiently ventilated, special requirements are imposed on the furniture:

• The material from which the furnishings are made must be water-resistant. The optimal choice is furniture made of MDF, polyurethane, plastic or metal constructions combined with glass. From products made of chipboard, attractive primarily for their price, it is better to refuse. Elite furniture made of natural wood is suitable only for spacious rooms with good ventilation.
• Whatever the design of the bathroom, it is preferable to choose cabinets on legs or hinged to avoid possible contact with water spilled on the floor.
• For wet rooms, only chrome-plated fittings are suitable — they will not rust and deteriorate.
• Dressers, especially corner ones, will optimally solve the problem of compact storage of bath accessories, detergents and other items often used in the bathroom.
• In small rooms, it is better to use vertical furniture — pencil cases or shelf systems.

To make the bathroom look like a single, harmonious space, you should think in advance, how the furniture will «interact» with the finish of the walls, ceiling and floor — whether it will be a nuanced combination or a game of contrasts. And, of course, it is necessary to maintain the overall style and color scheme of the room.
